Similarities Between The Lives Of Harsh Agarwal and Steve Jobs

Steve jobs and harsh

ShoutMeLoud started in 2008 is one of the top blogs in our country India and is the first product of India’s first blog network, Shout Dreams. It is Owned and managed by Harsh Agarwal, our subject for this post. Steve Jobs is the founder and CEO of Apple and Pixar who led his life on the concept of love.

Hi guys! In this post we are going to a journey through the lives of Harsh Agarwal and Steve Jobs together. So let us start with the similarities point to point.

We all have our own story to say, the problems we have been through, our achievements and our adventures. Their lives are/were also filled with many achievements, adventures and problems. These three things are common in every success story whether online or offline.

Do what you love

Steve jobs lived his life on the concept of love, he clearly said the secret of my success is, Every morning I looked in the mirror and asked myself that if today were the last day of my life will I do what I am about to do today. And if the answer has been “NO” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. He didn’t knew what he wanted to do with his life. He dropped out of college lost all the hope and was literally broke. Luckily thanks to his friend Steve wozniak with whom Steve established Apple from scratch and took it to the top. If Steve didn’t loved what he did he would never have reached the heights.

Similarly, Harsh Agarwal on completing his B.Tech in Information Technology went to look for a job in the private sector but the thing he didn’t knew was destiny has decided something else for him. He didn’t know he was going to start shoutmeloud. Those days he was blogging only for passion and interest on a BlogSpot blog. Thanks to the recession in 2008 He decided to blog full time and made something out of his life.

Not made for partnerships

Steve jobs, when Steve Wozniak decided to leave apple.  Jobs appointed a person to run apple with him. But soon their visions for future begin to diverge and in the end Jobs got fired from the company he started. He sold all his shares but he kept 1% of the company shares with him. With his new company next he returned to apple and changed our lifestyle.

Similar kind of thing happened with harsh, he partnered with a pune based blogger who he thought was equally capable as him to run the blog but it didn’t work out. I don’t know was there any kind of loss faced by him or something else but one thing is for sure. He was not made for partnerships.

Both of them are/were their own bosses, they didn’t want to follow others. On one hand where Steve jobs were dictator in his company similarly Agarwal runs shoutdreams the way he wants.

Their Accidents changed their lives

In 2009 unluckily our Harsh met with an accident and broke his leg. For some it was a bad thing to happen but for bloggers such accidents sometimes are a golden opportunity as in that state of health the blogger can focus only on creating content and working for his blog His family and the doctors take care of the rest. Honestly, I am waiting for such thing to happen to me.

Steve when got fired from apple at first he took it as failure but soon he realized that getting fired from apple was the best thing that could ever happen to him. He got a chance to start over and correct the mistakes he made in early days. His words were, the heaviness of being successful was replaced with the lightness of being a beginner again. Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could ever happen to me. After that incident he returned with a boom and worked harder than anytime before. That is the reason we know Apple as the biggest computer hardware manufacturer on the planet.

Finally, I don’t know a lot about their personal lives but I know one thing they are the people who taught me the one of the most important lesson in my life, Do what you love and never stop working for you want because if you work hard then no matter what the circumstances are one day you will achieve it. Guaranteed. Hope these two entrepreneurs taught you something too, come on share it with me via your comments.

  1. Hi NIshant!

Harsh is successful to stand himself as prominent idol in Indian blogging world. What inspires everyone to follow him is is monthly earning. Who thought such a success was possible! Even today there are many who suspect online money is possible at all!
Don’t know whether Harsh is comparable to Steve or not, but one thing is for sure, he is going to be a pioneer of Indian Blogging!

  9. Hi Nishant,

This is a wonderful comparison and similarities between Steve Jobs and Harsh Agarwal. They both were committed to reach their dreams no matter how hard they were hit by obstacles.

There is a great lesson learned here and it is to follow through and never give up on our dreams. We should keep striving until we reach our dreams no matter what comes our way. Yes, there might be obstacles that can slow us down but we should have the faith in ourselves to get through them by hard work and determination.

Thanks Nishant for a great post and a reminder to never give up on our dreams.

    Be Blessed,

I love point no 2. Absolutely, when you want to build your business, there’s no 50 – 50 partnership. Such thing never exist. You should have at least 60 – 70 of the share, otherwise bad thing might happen to you. Your partner may backfire you.

Some people may have the same vision, but not same passion 🙂

Hi Nishant, I liked the point “Do what you Love” Yes you are absolutely correct. If we try something uninteresting than i believe you wont get success in it.

Actually Indians are not made for partnership. If you ask 10 Indians will you want to work together mostly says NO I want to setup own company want to be rich coz we have no trust after all as compared to them…Nice article well comparing..

  16. I’ve been missing this. This is just the information that I needed. Great post, very interesting, thank-you for sharing! I will check back soon for more interesting article posts! I hardly ever comment on blogs that do have comments. The main reason is, you spend the time to read an article, then comments only to find that they do not accept comments anymore. You have touched some good factors here.

  17. Manish says:

  23. Hey Abuzar!

Thanks a lot for stopping by to leave your feedback and most importantly being honest with your feedback. I really liked the fact that unlike other who always make a positive comment to get links you thought to share your thoughts with us and you know what, I salute you man!

And I guess I really did hurt your sentiments, Sorry for that 🙁

and one last thing, Because of this article I don’t think you have to blame all the Indian bloggers. I would be happy to accept a comment specifically against me.

Though If you do start a discussion about country and a country’s blogosphere I think you should because that controversy will only increase the traffic to my post 😀

PS. Just kidding on the last sentence 🙂

    Again, Thanks a lot!
